Frame: This is a 1998 Bianchi Mega Pro XL Mercatone Uno, restored by Waterford in its original colorway. History: the prior owner purchased this frame from a seller in Italy in approximately 2007. The seller claimed it was a Bianchi team bike which was ridden by Marco Pantani. CyclingUpgrades and the prior owner have no provenance to prove this claim, but it is nevertheless part of the "history" of the frame. The prior owner had the frame refinished in 2017 by Waterford (it was the same colorway before being refinished) and added NOS Campagnolo parts to complete it as the build it is today. The parts have nothing more than bike stand testing and parking lot miles on them. It is effectively unridden after the rebuild. The frame does not have a serial number, which was also typical for team frames of this era.
Condition: The entire build is in near new condition, with just a few signs of handling and light usage here and there. The frame has a small crack at the lower end of the head tube - shown in the last listing picture. This is a very common defect for this frame and Waterford recommended leaving it as is during the restoration. There is a also a crack on the stem near the fixing bolt as described below. No other cracks or defects were identified through a thorough visual inspection.
Wheelset: Campagnolo Shamal 12-HPW alloy clincher (rare) wheelset with Campagnolo Record hubs. The wheels have the most signs of wear on the bike, some light scratches here and there and the brake tracks show light signs of use.
Tires: Vittoria Rubino Pro Graphene 2.0 700c x 25mm
Groupset: Campagnolo Record Ultra QS 2x10-Speed, was NOS when built in 2017
Crankset: Campagnolo Record 10-Speed 172.5mm, 53/39t, was NOS when built in 2017
Saddle: Selle Italia Flite Marco Pantani The Pirate, dated as a 2017 manufacture, was new when built in 2017
Seatpost: Campagnolo Record Carbon seatpost, was NOS when built in 2017
Brakes: Campagnolo Record center-mount rim brakes, was NOS when built in 2017
Handlebar: ITM Scatto alloy 40cm handlebar
Stem: ITM, the stem has a crack on each side near the fixing bolt, suggest replacing the stem before riding the bike
Size: 55cm. 550mm top tube. 520mm seatpost center to center. 550mm seatpost center to top. 400mm chainstay Head tube 120mm. Recommend buyer confirm and research full geometry online.
